NH MPAS Students Attend American Academy of Physician Associates Conference
May 21, 2025

Earlier this month, students from the New Hampshire-based Master of Physician Assistant Studies program (MPAS) attended the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) Conference in Denver, CO.
Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor Betsy Piburn shared "Our clinical year students represented Franklin Pierce with enthusiasm, professionalism, and skill in both the Knowledge Bowl and the Ultrasound Challenge. While we didn’t take home a trophy, I was truly in awe of their performance and composure under pressure. Their participation was made possible by the incredible support of FPU, for which we are deeply grateful."
Piburn also noted Sarah Stevens became one of only two students in the past three years to complete a full FAST exam (a trauma assessment that includes several different areas of imaging) in under 20 seconds —an achievement that genuinely impressed one of the event’s keynote ultrasound experts.
Piburn also had the opportunity to participate in the Hackathon, focused on nutrition and innovation in healthcare, and was on the winning team! She shared "On a personal note, I had the opportunity to participate in a Hackathon focused on nutrition and innovation in healthcare—and I’m happy to share that our team won! I look forward to incorporating some of these creative approaches into future teaching and classroom engagement."
Well done!
